European Commissioner visits “ITERUM”

At the end of January, Jessika Roswall, European Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience, and a Competitive Circular Economy, visited the “ITERUM” production facility. The Commissioner met with “ITERUM” board member Jūlija Zandersone to discuss the situation in the industry and future prospects.

The visit provided an opportunity for open and constructive discussions on some of the most pressing challenges facing EU recyclers today – particularly the impact of virgin materials on the competitiveness of recycled plastics, as well as the need for effective market-protection legislation.

We were encouraged by the European Commission’s clear commitment to rebalancing the industry through several important policy initiatives, including stricter import controls, which are essential to ensuring fair competition and market transparency.

We appreciate the Commission’s support for the industry, as well as the Commissioner’s engagement and willingness to consider our perspective, and we look forward to continued dialogue as these initiatives take shape.
